Animal Trainer / Presenter
A vacancy has arisen for an animal trainer / presenter to work within the Animals, Education and Conservation Department.
The successful candidate will have at least three years relevant experience working with and training a wide variety of exotic species, including free flight birds.
Responsibilities include carrying out daily husbandry routines, reporting observations on the health and behaviour of our animals and maintaining previously trained natural behaviours and the development and training of new behaviours according to protocols.
Knowledge and experience of animal training using operant conditioning is essential. The candidate must have excellent communication skills with the ability to present an educational show to a large audience and conversely be able to communicate on a one to one basis with our visitors. Some experience in developing educational shows, equipment making and use of radio transmitters and receivers would be beneficial. The candidate will have passed the Advanced National Certificate in the Management of Zoo Animals, or an equivalent qualification.
The post will involve weekend and some evening work.
