Salary £ 38,040 - £46,140 (inclusive of Outer London Weighting) depending on experience / performance

An opportunity has arisen for an exceptional individual to join the management team at the City of London Corporation’s Animal Reception Centre as an Assistant Manager. Based at Heathrow airport, the Animal Reception Centre (ARC) is unique and provides an unequalled service to our stakeholders and works very closely with Her Majesty’s Revenues and Customs, Border Control, Animal Health and Defra.

The main remit of the ARC is to enforce U.K. and E.U. legislation with regards to animal health and welfare, however, the ARC also provides care and accommodation to the huge variety and quantity of animals that pass through Heathrow airport each year.

You should have a degree in a biological subject or have considerable relevant experience in an animal environment. This experience should include the husbandry of a wide range of domestic, non-domestic and exotic animal species within a professional facility and of enforcement, it should also include managing health and safety, both generally and more specifically with regard to zoonoses.

A sound knowledge of relevant legislation relating to enforcement and a knowledge of taxonomy with the ability to use taxonomic keys for species ID over a wide range of taxa is required.

Management experience and the ability to motivate and develop individuals to enhance team performance are also essential. You will also have excellent IT, oral and written communication skills, a full driving licence and full colour vision.

Work will be on a shift basis from 12.00 midday - 8.00pm Monday to Friday and there is a necessity to be ‘on-call’ 1 week in 3 for which you may receive an additional payment. On occasions you may be required to cover Animal Attendant duties with minimal notice e.g. night shift.
