The Role

The Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust is looking for a skilled and knowledgeable amphibian and reptile keeper with a thorough understanding of the role and function of a modern zoological collection and in situ conservation programmes.
Responsibilities will include the daily husbandry and management of a large and diverse collection in conjunction with the other section staff, record keeping, and participation in wider herpetological and zoo activities and organisations. A special responsibility in the management for the amphibian programmes in the Department will be part of the daily activities.

The Candidate
It is essential that applicants have proven experience in the successful husbandry of amphibians and reptiles and ideally possess at least a first degree in a relevant subject. A particular expertise with amphibians in captivity ( up to 4 years) gained in other zoos, private collections, museums, universities, and/or through field work, would be an advantage. A logical, precise and scientific approach to animal keeping is required and competency with standard computer software is vital.
The successful applicant will be a strong team player, able to show a high degree of initiative and independence.
Good written and verbal communication skills, including interaction with members of the public, are essential.

Keeper grade and salary commensurate with experience.
