HEAD KEEPER – Blackpool Zoo


Due to a major restructuring of the animal department, award winning Blackpool Zoo is looking to fill some key positions.

2 x Experienced Head Keeper (Ref No: AD/HK/11),

Overseeing the day to day running of one of the two animal areas within the zoo with a ‘hands-on’ operational approach you will supervise, roster, support and assist the animal keeping team within your assigned area, ensuring best practice, compliance with Health and Safety regulations and a consistent and continuous performance to improve the overall Zoo animal management standards.

As we move forward under a new departmental management structure, we are looking for someone to be a positive role model to others through demonstrated behaviours.

As well as being responsible for your area, you will also be part of the Zoo Senior Animal Management Team where not only will you assist and deputise for the animal manager but also have a very active role in developing and moving forward the animal department within its framework aims and objectives in this new and exciting period within Blackpool Zoo’s history.

You will need to be hard working, physically fit, enthusiastic and reliable. A minimum of 7 years zoo keeping experience plus proven people management skills and have passed the Advanced National Certificate in the Management of Zoo Animals or an equivalent is essential.

Blackpool Zoo is ideally and conveniently located on the outskirts of the "UK most popular holiday resort". Less than a 5 minute drive from the M55 motorway, the zoo’s site is also easily accessible from numerous rural villages in the surrounding area. The zoo itself is situated in a well established green belt area of the town and is only a 10 minute drive away from the town centre, which offers a veritable feast of nightlife, entertainment and shopping as well as the famous Golden Mile coastline. Blackpool can genuinely offer "something for everyone", from singles to families, yet, within an hour drive of this vibrant town you can be in the Lake District, Manchester or even the Yorkshire Dales
