Gorilla Keeper

Gorilla Keeper

The Aspinall Foundation is a registered charity that is actively involved with several projects incorporating a diverse range of conservation activities both at their Kent based Howletts and Port Lympne Wild Animal Parks and overseas projects in DRC, Indonesia and Madagascar. Our main spheres of conservation-based activity include captive breeding, education, ecosystem management, local community education projects, capacity building, habitat surveys and the rehabilitation of confiscated wild animals.

Howletts Wild Animal Park, situated near Canterbury in Kent, is a charity committed to protecting rare and endangered animals from extinction through captive breeding and reintroduction programmes. Part of The Aspinall Foundation, Howletts is home to the largest captive breeding group of Western Lowland Gorillas in the world with over 130 births to date.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our team of dedicated gorilla keepers. The ideal candidate will have experience gained in a mainstream zoological collection - preferably with great apes - an awareness of current conservation issues and a passion for animal welfare.

This is a physically demanding position so candidates must be physically fit. A full valid driving licence is essential to the role. Ideally you will posses experience of driving farm machinery and basic maintenance skills. Holding a recognised Zoo Animal Management qualification and being comfortable giving talks to the public would be an advantage.

Working 5 days a week, including weekends and bank holidays, the successful candidate will have a genuinely flexible approach to working hours. Single person accommodation may be available.

Closing date: Friday 6th September 2013
