Trainee Animal Keeper: Large Mammals

Trainee Animal Keeper: Large Mammals

Twycross Zoo - East Midland Zoological Society Limited, is the World Primate Centre.  The Zoo has a comprehensive collection of primate species, together with other mammals, birds and reptiles.

With over 850 animals, the Zoo has exciting plans to further its work in the conservation of endangered species and is striving to achieve the best in animal welfare, research, conservation and education.

We have more to do and as the Zoo develops we are looking for dynamic, knowledgeable individuals to help lead the teams forward.

We therefore have a vacancy for a Trainee Animals Keeper on the Large Mammals section. The section manages a range of ungulate and carnivore species including Amur leopard, snow leopard, meerkat, Bactrian camel, Kirk’s dik dik and Asian elephant.  This is a key role which will involve working on the section, covering all areas of animal husbandry including feeding, cleaning, training and record keeping; as well as interacting with the zoo visitors.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, high performing individual with an interest in zoo animal management. You must be committed to continued professional development and be a good team worker.  Some zoo keeping experience and an animal-related qualification, such as the BIAZA approved ANCMZA or DZMAA, would be advantageous.

The role is full time, including weekend duties on a rota system. Salary is paid monthly and we provide uniform, 31 days holiday per annum, 5% employer’s pension contribution (after qualifying period).

If you are interested, please send your CV with a covering letter to recruitment@twycrosszoo.org.
