Barbary Macaque Conservation Volunteer

The Moroccan NGO,Barbary Macaque Conservation in the Rif (BMCRif) (www.barbarymacaque.org) has recently begun collaborating with regional authorities in the confiscation of illegally held wildlife particularly Barbary macaques. We are now seeking someone with at least four years’ professional experience in primate rehabilitation who is looking for a new challenge as initiator and manager of the first Barbary macaque rehabilitation centre in Morocco. The centre will be adjacent to BMCRif's Conservation and Education Centre in a remote area of northern Morocco adjacent to Barbary macaque habitat near the forest of Bouhachem. We will be able to offer free on-site accommodation but the successful applicant will be responsible for fund-raising for the centre's construction and running expenses including their own stipend and travel expenses. The centre's manager will be supported and advised by BMCRif directors and a group of experts in the field of wildlife rehabilitation. In the first instance, the position will be home-based but the manager will be permanently based in Morocco when the construction of the centre begins.

Qualifications and experience: Practical hands-on experience of wildlife rehabilitation with an emphasis on ex-pet primate socialisation rehab is essential. We are seeking someone with at least four years’ experience of working in a professional capacity with confiscated primates. Fund-raising experience and the ability to speak French or Spanish is desirable. There will be opportunities to undertake research in collaboration with other BMCRif staff. Experience of wildlife rehabilitation for raptors and tortoises would be an asset.
