Trainee Animal Keeper

Trainee Animal Keeper: Large Mammals
(Temporary Contract for 4 to 6 months)

Twycross Zoo – East Midland Zoological Society (TZEMS), World Primate Centre, has a comprehensive collection of primate species, together with other mammals, birds and reptiles.  The Zoo has exciting plans to further its work in the conservation of endangered species. We have impressive breeding records for many of these species and recent changes to husbandry practices have enabled more natural groupings and enclosure modifications. We have more to do!

We have a vacancy for a trainee animal keeper on the Large Mammals section, with a core working focus on elephants.  The Large Mammals section is comprised of a variety of hoofstock, carnivores and our herd of 5 Asian elephants.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated individual with an interest in zoo animal management and education.  You must be committed to continual professional development and be a good team worker.  Zoo keeping experience and a relevant animal-related qualification would be an advantage.  This position is a key role which will involve providing basic animal husbandry and regular interaction with the public.

The role is a full time temporary role, including weekend duties on a rota system. Salary is paid monthly and we provide uniform and 31 days holiday per annum (pro-rated).

If you are interested, please send your CV with a covering letter to recruitment@twycrosszoo.org
