Reptile and Amphibian Keeper

Permanent position, full time 38 hours per week. Weekend work required.

Paignton Zoo Environmental Park is recruiting for the position of Reptile and Amphibian Keeper on the Lower Vertebrates and Invertebrates department. We are looking for a driven and enthusiastic, experienced keeper to deliver on all aspects of husbandry for a wide range of reptiles and amphibians.

The successful candidate will have four or more years’ experience working with reptiles and amphibians and a keen and active interest in their conservation. You must also have up-to-date knowledge and understanding of reptile and amphibian management, as well as good awareness of zoo legislation and best practice. You must have demonstrable communication skills both verbal and written; an essential part of the role is being able to converse with diverse audiences and you may be required to present peer reviewed talks at industry conferences. Proficiency with IT, specifically MS Office suite, is also vital.

In addition to the above, applicants should possess either the Diploma in the Management of Zoo and Aquarium Animals or an equivalent zoo biology focused qualification. The successful candidate will be expected to care for all species on the section and supervise junior members of staff.
