Many have suffered years of abuse or neglect. On arrival at Monkey World these primates are rehabilitated into appropriate social groupings and provided with an environment which encourages them to express natural behaviours.

Job Description
Monkey World is looking for an experienced primate keeper to support the team leader on our Small Monkey section. This section currently cares for over 50 monkeys of 7 different species managed in various group setups. This is a diverse section which cares for monkeys from many different back-grounds. Monkey World works closely with the RSPCA to help primates caught up in the UK pet trade and offers a valuable opportunity to help rehabilitate these animals into a natural environment at Monkey World. The successful candidate will help to oversee all aspects of the section including animal husbandry, diets, operant conditioning, enrichment and health checks. You will also be responsible, in the absence of the team leader, for staff training and monitoring.

Qualifications/Experience
This role requires a primate keeper with 4 years primate experience - including a minimum of 2 years callitrichid experience.

Applicants will need to demonstrate good communication skills, be physically fit, self motivated and able to lead and work as part of a team.

Desirable
Experience of working with callitrichid (particularly common marmosets), squirrel monkey, stump-tailed macaque, ring-tailed lemur, saki monkey, patas monkey, cotton-topped tamarin.
Experience of operant conditioning
Full driving licence
Shotgun certificate
Experience of public speaking
Familiarity with rescue and rehabilitation of primates


Salary
Dependant on experience.

Condition of appointment
This position will be subject to a six-month probationary period
