our primates are rescue animals from a variety of different backgrounds. Many
have suffered years of abuse or neglect. On arrival at Monkey World these
primates are rehabilitated into appropriate social groupings and provided with
an environment which encourages them to express natural behaviours.

Job description
Monkey World is
looking for an experienced primate keeper to support the team leader on our
orang-utan section. Monkey World is currently home to 17 orang-utans living in
three mixed-sex groups. The deputy team leader will support the team leader in
managing these groups which are made up of orang-utans rescued from all over
the world. Monkey World is also home to the European Orang-utan Crèche where
orphaned youngsters are reared and socialised with others of their own kind.
The successful
candidate will help to oversee all aspects of the section including animal
husbandry, diets, operant conditioning, enrichment and health checks. You will
also be responsible, in the absence of the team leader, for staff training and
monitoring.
Qualifications/Experience
This role requires a
primate keeper with at least 4 years’ experience. A minimum of 2 year’s
experience of working with orang-utans is also essential.
Applicants will need
to demonstrate good communication skills, be physically fit, self-motivated and
able to lead and work as part of a team.

Salary
Dependant on
experience.
Condition of
appointment

be subject to a six-month probationary period
