Full time position
 Working 80 hours per fortnight
Salary £19,320 per annum


Bristol Zoo Gardens is recruiting for the position of Senior Keeper on the Bird Section. The Senior Keeper’s primary responsibility is to show leadership within the Bird team in its daily operations and captive breeding efforts, in support of the Team Leader and Curator. The Senior Keeper is responsible for taking the lead on all aspects of daily husbandry, management of resources, as well as enclosure maintenance and improvement. The Senior Keeper also makes significant contributions to the training of keepers, volunteers and students, as well as providing support to ensure high levels of proficiency and work performance throughout the team. Whenever necessary, the Senior Keeper deputises for the Team Leader in their absence.

This is a full-time position working 80 hours per fortnight as part of the departmental 14 day rota which will include weekends and bank holidays.

The successful applicant will already be an experienced and enthusiastic bird keeper with a proven record of expertise in all elements of aviculture and captive propagation. The position would suit a zoo professional who is looking for extra responsibilities and looking to develop their experience in leadership.

The salary is £19,320 per annum for Senior Keepers, based on them having appropriate professional qualifications (e.g. DMZAA or Bachelors degree).
