WEEKEND ZOO RANGER

Permanent – 21 hours per fortnight

We are Chester Zoo, and for over 80 years we’ve been a leading conservation and education charity, and an amazing, award-winning visitor attraction.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Weekend Zoo Ranger to join our award winning Discovery & Learning team.

The Role:

Our Weekend Zoo Rangers deliver public engagement around the Zoo, including one to one engagement, exhibition supervision and other educational activities. Audiences vary from 1 to 500 or more, and there is lots of public interaction requiring a confident and outgoing personality.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A good knowledge of the natural world and conservation, most likely gained through a degree in a Zoo Biology or conservation-related field
  • A dynamic and creative mind
  • The ability to deliver high quality public engagement opportunities for our visitors
  • Excellent customer service skills, and able to work alone as well as part of a team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as the role is all about effective communication
  • Good organisational and time management skills

A good working knowledge and experience of zoo conservation education, including research, would be desirable, as is a good knowledge of our animal collection and conservation work.

The rate of pay for this role is £8.35 per hour and hours of work will be 3 days out of 14. This includes working two days on one weekend and one day on the second weekend, and may also include occasional evening work.
