Trainee Primate Keeper – Part Time

(3 days per week)

 Howletts Wild Animal Park in Canterbury, Kent is recruiting for the position of Trainee Primate Keeper, working 3 days per week 8am – 5pm.

Howletts is a world class wildlife park run by the international conservation charity The Aspinall Foundation, and works to support a number of overseas conservation projects including the Java Primate Project in Indonesia. We are home to a collection of rare and endangered primates, including Javan gibbons, Dusky langurs, Sulawesi macaques, Pied tamarins and Gelada baboons to name a few.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a mainstream zoological collection, an awareness of current conservation issues and a genuine passion for animal welfare. They must posses good all round animal husbandry skills and be enthusiastic in contributing to the enrichment of the primate species around the park. An relevant animal management qualification or similar would be advantageous. You must hold a full valid driving licence. 

A practical and proactive approach coupled with good organisation and communication skills and an overall understanding of the role of the modern animal collection is essential.

Working 3 days per week, including weekends and bank holidays, the successful candidate will have a genuinely flexible approach to working hours.
Salary is in line with national living/minimum wage.
